The leader of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, said today (5/4) that Iran’s response to the blow attributed to Israel against the Iranian consulate in Damascus, a raid that resulted in the death of 16 people, is “inevitable” .
“Rest assured that the Iranian response to the blow to the consulate in Damascus is inevitable,” Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised address.
“Where, how, when and on what scale the response will be, we are not obliged to ask,” he added, believing the decision rested with Tehran.
Seven Iranian soldiers, including two high-ranking officers, were killed in the airstrike on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital on Monday. Iran immediately blamed Israel, which did not confirm responsibility for the strike.
According to the head of the Lebanese armed group – which is an ally of Iran – the strike on the consulate is a turning point after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, which is already in its sixth month. The war began with the Palestinian movement’s attack on southern Israel.
Since then, Hezbollah has launched daily attacks against Israel from southern Lebanon in support of its ally, Hamas, and Israeli forces have been retaliating militarily, raising fears of a widening war.
Hezbollah “is not afraid of war and is fully prepared for any war” against Israel, Nasrallah warned in his speech to mark Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day, observed every last Friday of Ramadan in solidarity with the Palestinians and against Israel.
At the same time, he warned that his organization has not yet used its “main weapons” in the daily exchanges of fire with Israel in recent months.
“We have not yet used our main weapons, nor have we used our main forces” in combat, he said.
