Iraq signs a memorandum of understanding with Germany’s Siemens to develop the country’s electricity system

Baghdad / Obelisk: Today, Friday, the Ministry of Electricity signed a joint memorandum of understanding with Siemens, in a ceremony that took place in the German capital, Berlin, within the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, to the German capital, Berlin, which he arrived yesterday.

The memorandum was signed by the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Mr. Ziyad Ali Fadel, while it was signed by the CEO of the company, Christian Bruch, on the Siemens side.

The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by Al-Masala, that the memorandum of understanding includes a number of basic paragraphs that constitute a map of action for the development of the electricity system in Iraq.

The statement added: In light of the memorandum, Siemens is working, in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, to develop an integrated plan for the electricity system in general, which includes solutions to problems, and the company is also establishing new generation stations.

The memorandum of understanding included that Siemens present an integrated study to Iraq, including how to benefit from associated gas, in supporting and increasing the production of electric power, according to the statement.

It also included the signing of a long-term agreement to maintain and rehabilitate units operating in Iraq established by Siemens, as well as the implementation of renewable energy projects, namely solar energy and wind movement, and the establishment of transfer stations in all regions of Iraq, in addition to developing and qualifying the cadres of the Ministry of Electricity and transferring expertise.
