Jeddah: Following the instructions of King Salman, the surgery to separate the Iraqi conjoined twins Umar and Ali, who were brought to Riyadh, began. At seven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the head of the surgical team, Dr. The surgery started at the King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children under the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh under the supervision of Abdullah Al Rabia. The team consists of 27 consultants, specialists, nursing and technical cadres.

The six-stage surgery is expected to take 11 hours. Al-Rabi’a said. He noted that the success rate of the surgery is 70 percent because the twins are conjoined at the chest and abdomen and share the liver, gallbladder, and intestines. The twins also underwent surgery to implant skin extension devices to help cover the surgical site after the separation.

He also mentioned that this was done by the plastic surgery team. The Iraqi Siamese were brought to Riyadh with their parents in September last year. After studying the health conditions of the children and the surgical possibilities, today the separation surgery is done. This is the fifth operation to separate conjoined twins from Iraq. The Saudi plan to separate the Siamese began in 1990. Now the 54th surgery is going on.
