Used by tens of millions of movie buffs around the world, the IMDB platform has become the bible for movie buffs. The average ratings of films and series generally allow you to get a good idea of the quality of a program. Self Financial based itself on the average ratings of films & series available on the different platforms to try to define which streaming platform offered the best programs. And quite surprisingly, it was Apple TV+ which took first place on the podium, for the third year in a row.
Apple TV+ programs average a rating of 7.18/10 compared to 6.91 for HBO Max and 6.62 for Disney+. Netflix programs only garner an average of 6.53 and those of Prime Video 5.93.
So of course we have to put all this into perspective… Because Apple only has a catalog of 271 films & series, compared to 6,500 for Netflix and 14,000 for Prime… Among which we find a bunch of films “rented” to distributors for a period well defined. Conversely, Apple does not offer any films other than its own productions. The average therefore tends to disadvantage the platforms that offer the most content.
When we count the films having received an “excellent” rating – i.e. more than 8/10 –, Prime Video however comes far in the lead with 817 programs, compared to 568 for Netflix and… 58 for Apple TV+. In other words, the result is very different depending on the methodology used…
