Is April 28, 2024 a commercial Sunday if there is no trade ban – shopping in every store

Not for all Poles, this first spring weekend lasts nine or five days – for many it is a week like any other. Busy people have particular problems with everyday activities, including shopping.

Of course, the resourceful people took time off not only on Thursday, May 2, but also on Monday and Tuesday, April 29-30 – thanks to this, they have as many as nine days of uninterrupted rest. They are probably not interested in shopping, because if they are away from home, the nearest store is open at convenient hours so that you can replenish your supplies – barbecue! – at any time, without worrying about whether Sunday is a trading Sunday or a Sunday with a trading ban!

Trading Sunday, Sunday with a trading ban

On Friday afternoons and Saturdays, discount stores and shopping malls are overcrowded and you have to waste a lot of time in queues to do your shopping.

So some people choose the option of online shopping – although we generally like online stores, but not necessarily those selling food – others waste time which, especially those who are the most busy, should be devoted to rest.

Has anything changed in the regulations, how many commercial Sundays in 2024

There are still only seven Sundays a year without a trading ban. Although politicians have promised to liberalize regulations allowing trading on all Sundays or making more commercial Sundays, there is silence in the legislation for now.

So all we can do is enjoy Sundays like today – April 28, 2024, which is legally a trading Sunday.

You will have to wait a long time for the next one – until June 30, 2024. And then, in the second half of the year, there will only be three trading Sundays left. Today is the third of seven trading Sundays in 2024, permitted by law – the provisions of the Act on the prohibition of trading on Sundays.

Shopping on Sunday, April 28, 2024: which stores are open

The good news is that all stores that trade on days other than Sunday are open. The worse news is that because it’s Sunday, the shops are open shorter than on a weekday – they open later, not at 6 a.m., but rather at 8 a.m. or 9 a.m., and they don’t close at 11 p.m., but usually from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

So if we plan to do our shopping early on Sunday morning or leave it until late in the evening, it is better to check in advance, even online, what the trading hours are on Sunday without a trading ban in a specific store.

Even better news is that since shopping Sundays are rare during the year, retail chains are now fighting a real battle for customers, which means additional promotions and price bargains. So, having chosen a place where we can shop, let’s check what promotions are planned for today in the selected stores and choose the one (or those) where we can shop at the most advantageous prices.

In the largest discount stores, the main tender argument, probably in terms of the expected May barbecues, are beers. Lidl, Biedronka, Stokrotka – each chain has its own methods of achieving quite large bonuses for buyers. Such promotions, although on a slightly smaller scale, can be expected in virtually all stores.

Is it possible to do shopping with courier delivery on April 28?

Online stores, of course, also operate today. Moreover, their Sunday trading ban applies only to a limited extent, so they usually deliver purchases also on Sundays that are formally covered by the trading ban.

However, shopping in an online store carries the risk that the fruit or vegetables will be stale, and there will also be an additional cost. Not only do you usually have to pay for delivery – the courier’s fee – but you also have to pay more for the items themselves, even those with promotions. Contrary to official marketing messages, online stores have higher prices and the shopping cart there is up to 20% higher than in a stationary Lidl or Biedronka. more expensive.

The fact is that this is the price of convenience, although this is often overrated, because waiting for the courier to deliver is wasted not an hour or two, but half a day. Another issue is the degree of order fulfillment and the time spent on complaints, but this is a separate topic.
