Is Austria on the climate brake? “Pros and Cons” highlights environmental protection measures

“Pro & Contra” on Tuesday at 10:20 p.m. on JOYN & PULS 4 examines the question of what Austria is doing to save the climate. In an interview: Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.

Vienna (OTS) – For the first time, a trend reversal in climate protection is emerging. Austria’s CO2 emissions fell to their lowest level since 1990 in 2022. And yet the goal of reaching zero by 2040 still seems a long way off. A climate protection law is urgently needed for this and the black-green federal government cannot agree on it, even though it should have been in force for three years.

Climate protection measures such as banning combustion engines, greening the commuter allowance and replacing gas heaters are controversial among the population. Also because many households are threatened with financial burdens.

Is the Austrian government brave enough when it comes to environmental protection? How can the population be won over to more comprehensive climate action? And what could the outcome of the National Council election change all of these plans?

Elisabeth Zehetner, Reinhard Steurer, Klara König and will discuss all these questions on Tuesday at “Pro and Contra”. Thomas Eisenhuth with Manuela Raidl in the studio. Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler also has her say in an individual interview.
