Is the Flemish movement dead? (Podcast)

The Kingdom of Belgium will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2030. But not everyone is happy about this anniversary. In Flanders, more particularly, the nationalists dream of confederalism, some even imagine the creation of a republic of Flanders. In their eyes, the emancipation of the Flemish movement must be total.

But how was this “Flemish movement” born, how has it survived the centuries or decades? To look into the question is to dare to evoke taboos, to understand political divisions, to interpret certain symbols and to observe linguistic demands being transformed into socio-economic programmes.

“Let’s talk about history” examines Flanders and the Vlaamse Beweging with Herman Van Goethem (rector of the University of Antwerp and historian), Chantal Kesteloot (doctor in contemporary history and member of Cegesoma – Les Archives de l’Etat) and Jan Peumans (former president of the Flemish Parliament and former N-VA senator).
