Replacement for Isabelle Huppert already found
The two are replaced by Irène Jacob in the title role and Jérôme Kircher as Frère Dominique. The Swiss-French actress Jacob is best known for her leading roles in the films “Three Colors: Red” and “The Two Lives” directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski. The Frenchman Kircher has acted in many film, TV and theater productions with directors such as Patrice Chéreau and Luc Bondy.
Opening program is fixed
The musical program for the is now fixed Opening ceremony of the Salzburg Festival on Tuesday, July 26, in the Felsenreitschule. You can hear “Give us peace” by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, the 3rd movement from “Konx-om-pax” by Giacinto Scelsi and, following the speech by Ilija Trojanow, “Silent Music” by Valentin Silvestrov. The latter had to flee Kyiv after Russia’s attacks on Ukraine and currently lives in Berlin. The organizers point out that these three works were deliberately chosen against the background of the war in Ukraine. The Salzburg Bach Choir and the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra are taking part in the programme. Duncan Ward is responsible for the musical direction, Benjamin Hartmann for the choir preparation.
