Israel: A dual flu and coronavirus vaccine for at-risk populations

For fear of an epidemic, Israel is preparing to double vaccinate populations at risk against the coronavirus and the flu before the arrival of winter.

Around 1,500 new coronavirus cases have been recorded daily for a month with the virus reproduction rate below 1.

According to a senior health ministry official, the apparent recommendation is that vaccines should be given in a single dose, so that someone over 60, or who has chronic illnesses, only has to travel only once in medical centers to receive both vaccines

According to the ministry, the vaccine administered to these patients could be the new vaccine adapted to the Omicron variant, and probably also to the BA4 and BA5 variants.

The official warns that it is likely to see a new epidemic of coronavirus as early as October combined with that of the flu, which had been particularly virulent last year. He also mentioned that a prevention campaign will be carried out in the fall, urging sick people to get tested and not to go to work to avoid the spread of the virus.

According to some health experts, two new epidemic waves of coronavirus could take place this winter.
