Israel protests against suspended legal reform

Israelis again took to the nationwide protests against the legal reform of the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which on March 27 was decided to be suspended amid these protests. This week of protests is the 13th in a row.

According to Israeli media estimates, more than 150,000 people took part in the protests throughout the country, the largest took place in Tel Aviv.

One of the main controversial points of the reform is the desire of the ruling coalition to gain more powers in the appointment of judges, including to the Supreme Court, reports Archyde.com. The prime minister says that the reform is necessary to balance the branches of power.

The Israeli government intends to return to discussing the reform at the summer session of the Knesset (parliament), and the reform is suspended until consultations with the parliamentary opposition. Social movements said they did not trust the government.
