Those in charge of the health sector in Gaza spoke of the catastrophic conditions that the population is experiencing as a result of the Israeli aggression that has been ongoing for two months and its destruction of a number of hospitals and health facilities, in addition to the loss of the basic tools necessary for first aid and rescuing the injured and sick.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf Al-Qudra, said that the continued brutal Israeli aggression has rendered the health system in the Strip completely incapacitated.

Al-Qudra added – during a press conference on Monday – that the Israeli occupation arrests a number of medical personnel in inhumane conditions. He called on the United Nations and the World Health Organization to press for their release.

During its ongoing aggression against Gaza for two months, the Israeli occupation army targeted a number of hospitals, leading to the martyrdom of dozens of wounded and displaced people who took refuge there to escape the bombing of their residential neighbourhoods. It also arrested a number of medical personnel, most notably the director of Al-Shifa Hospital, Muhammad Abu Salamiya, and some of his assistants.

Systematic killing

For his part, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, said that Egypt received only 400 wounded, out of a total of 40,000 injured in Gaza since the beginning of the war.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Al-Barsh added that the occupation practices a policy of systematic killing against the Palestinian people, and that most of the cases arriving at hospitals are dead.

In turn, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spolijaric Egger, said that there is currently no adequate humanitarian response in light of the Israeli military siege on Gaza.

She added that the level of human suffering in the Strip is unbearable, and that it is unacceptable that civilians do not have a safe place. The head of the International Committee called from Gaza to protect civilians and respect the laws of war.

For his part, spokesman for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), James Elder, said that the attacks in southern Gaza are no less brutal than what happened in the northern Gaza Strip, despite everything that has been emphasized.

Elder said – in a tweet on the X platform – that the situation is getting worse for mothers and children. He directed the platform’s followers by saying: Your voice is important. We must believe that we are able to be part of stopping the war on children, describing the silence regarding what is happening in Gaza as complicity.

In the same context, Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Shabagan, expressed his deep sadness over the martyrdom of a Palestinian Red Crescent volunteer on Monday.

In a tweet on the X platform, Chapagan stressed that humanitarian workers are not targets in war.

A few days ago, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned of a health catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and said, “The current living conditions in the Strip and the lack of health care may cause diseases that will kill a greater number of those killed as a result of the Israeli bombing of the Strip.”

Since the seventh of last October, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left more than 15,899 martyrs to date, while the number of injured has reached about 42,000, in addition to tens of thousands of displaced people and massive destruction in residential neighborhoods, vital facilities, and hospitals.
