Israeli army monitors evacuation from Gaza through cell phone tracking

Sources from the American newspaper The New York Times claim that the Israel Defense Force is tracking the positioning of cell phones in the Gaza Strip region to monitor the evacuation of civilians. The military asked the Palestinian population and citizens of other countries to move to the southern region, as there is an imminent land attack.

According to information from the NYT, in a control room located in southern Israel there are at least five soldiers monitoring the movement of civilians to the indicated safe zone. The expectation is that more than 1.1 million people will move to the south of the Gaza Strip, a region that will not be attacked by Israeli troops.

With the tracking data, the army can predict the volume of people who responded to the evacuation request and are heading to the designated location. The Israeli military claims that tracking smartphones via the mobile network and ordering them to vacate are to “preserve as many civilian lives as possible during an invasion.”

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee published guidance on his social media for Palestinians who intend to leave the war zone. He said that “If you care regarding yourself and your loved ones, go south, as instructed.”, he highlighted on his official profile on X (formerly Twitter).
