After rocket fire from Syria, the Israeli army said it carried out attacks on the country. Recently, two rockets crashed in open areas “in northern Israel” following an air alarm sounded, the army said on Saturday night. The military is now taking action once morest the origin of the shelling.

The army did not tell the AFP news agency where exactly the rockets fell. Israel considers the annexed Golan Heights to be part of its northern district.

According to the Syrian Defense Ministry and Syrian state media, an Israeli attack on Thursday targeted the capital Damascus.

In general, Israel hardly comments on individual attacks in Syria. But it repeatedly emphasizes that it will not allow its arch-enemy Iran to expand its presence in Syria. Tehran is allied with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.

Since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has fired on the neighboring country hundreds of times from the air. The attacks are particularly directed once morest the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, which is supported by Iran, but also once morest positions of the Syrian army. Since the start of the war once morest the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas, which is allied with Hezbollah, almost three months ago, Israel has intensified air strikes in Syria.
