Just a year and a half ago, Sun Mizrahi was a fashion design student and was photographed in a collection of one of her professors.
When the photoshoot hit social media, Mizrahi received a call from modeling agency INCH to join, which led to her dropping out of school and starting a whirlwind international career.
Her spectacular rise to the world stage came in June 2022, when she opened the Jacquemus Fall 2022 show in the south of France. By October, she had already made 23 major appearances for Christian Dior, Fendi, Hermès and many others, being ranked at the top of Vogue Magazines model list. Not bad for someone who, at 17, was rejected by every modeling agency in Israel.
Months later, Mizrahi, now 24, opens another show in New York but is already followed by Harper’s Bazaar for a vlog of a model’s ‘day in the life’ immediately after introducing Gigi Hadid.
“The vlog shows me at 5 a.m., putting on my face mask, having coffee, and running from show to show,” said on a late-night Zoom call.
Now she says she has seven fashion shows booked, including for Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera and Rodarte.
Mizrahi, who is married, is the second of three children. Her father was a professional footballer and her mother is a swimwear designer.
“I can’t understand what happened,” she said. “I find myself thinking several times a day that this is crazy. »
What do you attribute this success to?
“I don’t want to put myself down and say it’s just like a good time. But I was blessed. It’s a tough world and rejection can break you. My agent and I knew which opportunities to make the most of, how to be safe and stay true to myself, which certainly accelerated my success.
Beauty gets you through the door, but many before me had that initial success but went no further. I work hard and try to be a nice person.
You look different from most models today
The world has already evolved, unlike Israel, which is why I am more in demand abroad. The runways are full of Indian, Brazilian and Moroccan models. I cannot be ethnically identified and this intrigues some. I can look classic or avant-garde, I can be Arab or Brazilian. I am a combination of Morocco, Kurdistan, Turkey, Yemen and Syria.
When I go to castings, other models tell me they see my face everywhere. I also see my photo on all the other blocks. I never thought I would achieve such notoriety. It was never my dream.
How do you live the work?
I use eye drops because my eyes are the first to show when I’m tired. When I only sleep three to five hours a night, my eyes turn red. I will always get up early to have two hours, for tea and yoga. I have a book in my bag at all times and I use my free time during auditions or shows to read. When I have a particularly tough day, I text my husband or treat myself to something nice.
tell me about your husband
I met him when I was 17. Friends introduced us and there was an immediate chemistry between us. He is a broker and had run the family business but left to move to Paris, where I now live, to be with me.
He is very supportive and willing to try a new career just to allow me to succeed. Unlike many men in Israel, he has no ego or self-confidence issues and literally pushes me to work.
