Israeli Technology Will Be Used In NASA’s Artemis Mission

Israeli technology will be used aboard the first integrated test of NASA’s Orion spacecraft, called the Artemis I mission, according to the Israel Space Agency.

The flight in space will last six weeks with a journey of nearly 40,000 miles or 64,373.76 km to the Moon. This will be NASA’s first mission to the moon in 50 years.

“We are honored to be one of the few countries that managed to introduce original technology for Artemis I. The fact that the Israeli flag is flying in space fills us with pride,” the Israel Space Agency said.

Thousands of monitors will test the level of protection of the Zohar “dummy” during the experience. If successful, this experiment might lay the groundwork for a long-term human presence in space. The Israeli technology might in turn be used in future space missions to the Moon and Mars.

Earlier in April, Israeli investor and former fighter pilot Eytan Stibbe became the second Israeli in space by participating in the first fully private mission launched to the International Space Station.

The first Israeli in space was Ilan Ramon, who perished along with six NASA crew members in the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
