The Israeli young pianist Ariel Lanyi receives the Prix Serdang 2023. The Swiss award, initiated last year, is endowed with 50,000 francs (51,400 euros). The 25-year-old was suggested by the Austrian piano legend Rudolf Buchbinder, who is the curator of the Prix Serdang. Lanyi succeeds Martin James Bartlett, who was the first to receive the award in 2022.
Born on October 10, 1997 in Jerusalem, Lanyi now lives in London. He has already made guest appearances in renowned institutions such as the Wigmore Hall and last year went on a solo tour of Argentina. On June 25, the young pianist will play his prizewinners’ concert in the Villa Serdang near Solothurn.
In particular, the young colleague’s interpretation of Beethoven’s “Hammerklavier Sonata” impressed him, Buchbinder is quoted as saying in a broadcast in which he spreads Lanyi Rosen: “Ariel is at a crucial point in his career. I have him as a serious young man met, who makes a very mature and authentic impression on me.” He immediately returned the roses: “It is an honor that an artist of Rudolf Buchbinder’s caliber awards me this prize that I cannot describe in words.”
The awarding of the Prix Serdang is not linked to any obligations for the prizewinner, as initiator Adrian Flury emphasizes: “With the Prix Serdang we have created something very special: a prize that is not subject to any conditions; a prize that makes dreams come true , be it a purchase or the possibility of further training or a break for personal development.”
