After attacking a hospital in Gaza, Israel also destroyed an ancient Greek Orthodox church. The attack took place on the Saint Forferius Church in Gaza. Here the building collapsed. Hamas said 18 Christian Palestinians were killed. The attack took place when around 500 people sought shelter here. But the church authorities said that the information received is that around two hundred people have been killed. The mosque is located in the vicinity of Al-Ahli Hospital, which was destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. St. Forferius is the oldest Christian church in Gaza. The office of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch in Jerusalem said it condemned the airstrikes and would not abandon its religious and humanitarian duty to provide aid. About 1,000 of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million are Christians. Most of them are Greek Orthodox. Israel claims that part of the mosque was damaged in the attack on the missile command center.
