In an announcement, the MP for Achaia of the New Left, Sias Anagnostopoulou, states the next:
The desecration of the monuments of Nikos Tebonera, the Polytechnic and the executed fighters by the Nazis with Nazi and fascist symbols is an unacceptable insult to historic reminiscence, a cowardly assault on the dignity of the residents of Patras and a problem to our democratic values.
These are disgusting acts of intolerance and bigotry, which don’t have any place in our society. Inserting Nazi symbols on monuments that honor the resistance motion and self-sacrifice of freedom and democracy fighters is an insult to our heroes and a problem to your entire society.
It’s not sufficient to easily clear the monuments of singular symbols. The state should increase protection partitions towards all types of fascism and racism. It should defend the values of democracy, freedom and equality, values on which we constructed our future.
These acts of hatred and bigotry should be roundly condemned by all. We should unite our voices and get up towards all types of intolerance and racism. The reminiscence of our fighters is sacred and we should honor it in each means.
