The mother of the young woman who reported a group sexual attack says that they are devastated as a family to find out five years later of the great pain that her daughter carried in silence.

“As a family, our priority is to provide support and containment to our daughter,” said the mother of the young woman who reported having been victim of rape by a group of six subjects in the Festival of the Pampilla de Coquimbo in 2017.

His relatives raised their voices to ask for justice, minutes before participating in the march in commemoration of the International Women’s Day in the port community.

The woman confesses that they are devastated after knowing, almost 5 years later, the great pain that her daughter carried in silence.

“We did not find out when it happened, it is a great pain, to know what she was going through all this time inside her, that five guys abused her and that she was silent,” he said.

“It is a great pain for any mother or father and all those around them,” said the troubled mother.

He adds that with the support of the municipality of Coquimbo on the legal side, they will not give up in seeking justice for their daughter, who was only 16 years old at the time of the attack.

There are no new complaints

The young woman’s mother maintained that they have been aware of the existence of other cases, but it is the Women’s Department of the Buenos Aires municipality in charge of contacting them.

Let us remember that the young woman came accompanied to the Coquimbo Prosecutor’s Office by another victim, who had already filed a complaint for similar events that occurred in 2020, where some of these individuals would have participated.

Although there was information that other women violated by this group would file new complaints, until yesterday there were no new records in the Prosecutor’s Office.

Meanwhile, the legal director of the Municipality of Coquimbo, Pablo Galleguillos, indicated that they are aware of the existence of other affected women and that new cases have come to light on social networks, however, so far there are no more complaints and no other women have been contacted.

“We have only had communication with the victim of the event that occurred in 2017, but not with other people,” he said.

Regarding the case of La Pampilla, the municipal official pointed out that “the Department of Women is the one that is carrying out the social and psychological accompaniment of the young woman and her family.”

“Personally, we advise her on criminal matters and help her in writing the complaint so that she does not have to relive the story again,” he added.

Mayor of Coquimbo: “No type of harassment and violence against women will be tolerated”

The fact came to light after the young woman made her situation known after revealing the details of a gang rape of a woman in Argentina.

Through a publication on social networks, it was learned that two municipal officials were among those allegedly involved in the abuse in La Pampilla.

The subjects, who were in charge of providing support in the services provided by the cistern trucks, were dismissed due to the seriousness of the complaint.

In this context, the Mayor of Coquimbo, Ali Manouchehri, He maintained that “in this Municipality no type of harassment and violence against women will be tolerated, because under our administration these practices have ended.”
