Breaking: Critical IT Role Supporting Swiss Municipalities – Long-Term Opportunity Near Lake Baldegg

Luzern, Switzerland – A vital opportunity has emerged for an experienced IT System Technician to join a dynamic team shaping the digital landscape of Swiss public services. This isn’t just another IT job; it’s a chance to directly impact how municipalities and local governments operate in an increasingly digital world. The role, based near the picturesque Lake Baldegg, offers a blend of technical challenge, collaborative work, and the potential for long-term career growth within a secure, Swiss-hosted cloud environment. This is breaking news for IT professionals seeking a stable and impactful position in Switzerland.

Securing the Digital Future of Swiss Cities

The position, offered through a recruitment partner, focuses on onboarding and offboarding customers – municipalities and local governments – onto a highly secure, cloud-based IT infrastructure. This infrastructure utilizes a remote desktop infrastructure (RDS) specifically designed for the unique needs of the Swiss public sector. Each client receives a dedicated virtual server and a secure VPN connection, ensuring data privacy and operational continuity. The team, comprised of three IT professionals and led by an experienced project manager, is at the forefront of digital transformation for local governance.

What You’ll Be Doing: A Deep Dive into the Responsibilities

This role is hands-on and multifaceted. Key responsibilities include:

  • RDS Server Management: Creating and configuring servers to support client needs.
  • Secure Connectivity: Establishing and maintaining secure VPN connections.
  • User Account Administration: Creating and managing Active Directory (AD) user accounts.
  • Data Security & Access: Setting up NTFS file storage and permissions based on a defined matrix.
  • Integration & Migration: Integrating Microsoft 365 tenants and migrating data (files, SQL databases) from existing providers.
  • Application Deployment: Installing and configuring customer-specific applications, including those mandated by cantonal authorities.
  • On-Site Support: Performing occasional on-site installations and configurations (field service).

Is This Role Right For You? The Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in IT, backed by vocational training (EFZ or HF) or a related field. A minimum of five years of professional experience in a similar role – such as IT System Administrator, Cloud Support Engineer, or Technical Consultant – is essential. Crucially, strong technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows (11 & Server 2016+), RDS, M365, Active Directory, and SQL Server is required. A general understanding of networking principles, firewalls, and switches is also expected.

Language skills are paramount: Very good German (C1/C2) and/or Swiss German proficiency is a non-negotiable requirement. This is due to the direct interaction with public sector clients and the need to understand local regulations and nuances.

Beyond the Tech: Perks and Long-Term Potential

This is initially a 9-12 month contract, but with a strong emphasis on long-term collaboration and the possibility of transitioning to a full-time (FTE) position. The role offers a 100% workload (40 hours/week) with flexible working hours and the benefit of both remote work (up to 20%) and on-site presence near Lake Baldegg (60-80%). Free parking is provided, and opportunities for job-specific further training are available.

The location requirement – a commute of within 45 minutes to the customer site near Lake Baldegg – is important, reflecting the need for regular on-site collaboration and support. This isn’t just about technical skills; it’s about building relationships and becoming a trusted partner to Swiss municipalities.

The increasing reliance on cloud technologies within the public sector presents a significant growth area for skilled IT professionals. This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the heart of that evolution, contributing to a more efficient and secure digital future for Switzerland. If you’re a passionate IT professional seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity, this could be your next career move.
