It will create a reusable rocket with a methane engine

The Italian company “Avio” has signed a contract for the development of a prototype of a light reusable rocket with an M10 engine, which uses liquid methane and oxygen as fuel components, as well as an M60 power unit.

>< “SpaceNews” reported on this.

The financing of the two programs is estimated at 285.3 million euros, of which 103.7 million will be spent on the creation of the M60 power unit. The thrust it develops should be six times more than the M10, the engine installed in the upper stage of the promising Vega light rocket.

Funding has been split between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian government. The publication reminded that in addition to “Avio” in Europe, “ArianeGroup” is also working on the methane rocket engine project.
