Itaipu’s Aty Roof Campaign Continues in Hernandarias

Asuncion, IP Agency.- As part of the Aty Cover campaign, promoted by Itaipu Binacional, more than 600 discarded tires were collected along the Hernandarias highway during two days last week. This initiative seeks to reduce the environmental impact and promote responsible practices among the community’s residents.

The main objective of the campaign, which has already collected more than 30,000 kilos of tires, is to raise public awareness about the importance of community participation in solving this problem. It also seeks to establish strategic alliances with the public and private sectors to more effectively address the accumulation of tires, reported the Binational.

The first phase of the project is focused on eliminating tire accumulation points in municipalities, in order to contribute to the preservation of the environment and public health. On both days, clean-up operations were carried out along the highway, with the active participation of Itaipu professionals.

In this regard, citizens are asked to collaborate by identifying, either with photos or videos, people who throw this type of waste on the side of the road. These reports will help the competent institutions to sanction those responsible and prevent future contamination.

Ignacio Riquelme, from Itaipu’s Environmental Education Division, stressed that, because the country is going through a critical season of fires, these residues represent a double danger. On the one hand, if they catch fire, they generate black smoke that is highly polluting and harmful to health. On the other hand, by accumulating water, they become breeding grounds for mosquitoes that can transmit diseases such as dengue and chikungunya.

Finally, citizens are repeatedly called upon to join the Aty Cover campaign, either by contacting Itaipu or by helping to identify offenders who dispose of tires illegally. For questions or more information, interested parties may call (061) 599 7867, (061) 599 8651 or (0984) 920877.
