Italy celebrates Mahmoud Darwish: a literary icon who inspired generations

The Italian city of Polignano hosts the “Palestinian Culture Days” festival, which was entirely dedicated to the memory of the late poet Mahmoud Darwish.

The Italian city of Polignano will host the “Palestinian Culture Days” festival, from 4 to 6 August.

The organizing committee said in a statement that the occasion “is entirely dedicated to the memory of the great Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, the literary icon who inspired generations of intellectuals and artists around the world.”

The festival opens in Piazza San Benedetto with the unveiling of the memorial plaque dedicated to the memory of Mahmoud Darwish on August 4, in the presence of the Lebanese artist Marcel Khalife, and the Lebanese poet and journalist Zahi Wehbe.

The festival’s activities include meetings, lectures and musical performances to celebrate Mahmoud Darwish’s poetry and introduce the Italian public to Palestinian culture.

Among the participants are the Palestinian singer Sanaa Mousa and many bands, intellectuals and artists.
