Rome – The number of people over 100 in Italy reached a new record last year. This was announced by the national statistics office on Friday. In its annual report, ISTAT said the proportion of people over 100 has tripled since the beginning of the century, and in January it was almost 22,000 people, mostly women. The average age of the population is growing faster in Italy than in other EU countries.
