She becomes he, he becomes her – now they want children
A couple from Italy changed gender. Now that they have their official papers for it, they want to get married. The two also plan to be parents.
She was born in a man’s body, but always felt like a woman. He was born in a woman’s body, but always felt like a man. Maura Nardi (41) and Emanuele Loati (25) from the Italian town of Recanati have now officially received their new ID cards after their gender reassignment surgeries. Now they want to get married and are thinking about children.
In Recanati, around 30 kilometers south of Ancona, the news was received positively and with the greatest respect. “We all welcomed this decision with joy, there were no prejudices,” explains Antonio Bravi, Mayor of Recanati in “La Stampa”. “If they decide to celebrate the wedding in the parish, I will be very happy to marry them there. We are an open community,” he adds.
«Trans person should not be seen as a freak»
The couple has plans for the future: “We already see each other as a family and as a family we are also thinking about the possibility of having children, maybe resorting to adoption,” Maura Nardi tells the Italian newspaper “Il Resto del Carlino”. A “trans person should not be seen as a freak, but as the girl or boy next door,” she says.
Maura and Emanuele met three years ago thanks to a transgender Facebook group. They had to wait many months for their new ID cards. “All the time I was forced to present myself with documents that no longer corresponded to reality,” complains Emanuele and demands: “The Italian state should provide shorter deadlines for these purposes, since a person’s life and balance are at stake stand.”
It took three years for the authorities to confirm it – now finally some relief. Now nothing stands in the way of a new, carefree family life full of happiness. (nad)
