She confirms that about twenty cows managed to escape the flames, but these will have to be euthanized.

The beasts that survived either suffered burns or breathed in toxic fumes.

For the owners, it is a heavy loss. The breeding farm had calves, which would eventually become dairy cows.

Patrick Croteau, co-owner of the farm located in Saint-Théodore-d’Acton, gives a devastating assessment of the incident.

“Twenty managed to escape. It is certain that they will all have to be euthanized. What is most shocking is that we burned down in 2009. We had changed technology and we were motivated to build again. Our new installation, it was on the mark. It was perfect. Now we have no motivation,” he said.

Mr. Croteau was questioned by our journalist as to whether he is aware of the cause of the conflagration.

“It’s discouraging. There is practically no electricity. The employee had left the scene 20 minutes before the first flames. 30 minutes later, the ceiling was gone. We have no idea [de la cause]”, he said.

The director of firefighting operations is still unable to identify the cause of the blaze.
