Atlanta, United States of America (CNN) – American actor Will Smith surprised attendees of the “Oscars” awards ceremony, Sunday, by slapping the face of the host, comedian Chris Rock, after the latter made a joke about Smith’s wife for shaving her hair that angered her husband.
As Rock was presenting the party, he told Smith’s wife, Jayda Pinkett Smith, “Jada I love you, I think GI Jane 2 can’t wait to see that,” referring to the film in which the female lead Demi Moore appears with a shaved head.
The presenter’s joke was heavy on Smith’s wife, who appeared shaved due to her diagnosis of a disease that causes hair loss, as the annoyance was evident on her face.
Rock tried to rectify the situation after noticing that the joke didn’t resonate well. “It was a good joke,” he said.
Will Smith did not receive the joke as the presenter wanted, but left his seat towards Rock and dealt a strong slap live on the air, causing a state of shock among the audience.
After receiving the slap, the presenter said, “It’s the greatest night in the history of television,” to which Smith replied, “Don’t say my wife’s name,” and then repeated the sentence again.
Forty minutes after the incident, Smith rose to the stage to receive the Oscar for Best Actor for the movie “King Richard”, the father of American tennis players Serena and Venus Williams.
“I know that in order to do what we do we have to tolerate abuse and to be talked about,” Smith said.
Smith indicated that he received wisdom from the other candidate, Denzel Washington, who told him: “In the best moment for you, be careful, at this moment the devil comes to you,” he said.
The American actor concluded by saying that he hopes the “Academy” will welcome him again.

For her part, another tweet commented: “Today, at the Oscars, the announcer said, “Love waits.” Bozt is going to stand up in his bosom in the face of a man, oh woe, by God,” as she put it.
