On a road trip or at the bottom of the garden, Futura has spent countless energy. That produced by the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus electric generator and its solar panel. Free energy that allowed him to take electrical appliances that usually stay at home with him when camping.

Imagine a cabin in a remote place… Imagine having the slightly crazy idea of settling there for a privileged moment of rest in nature… Now imagine that you can still benefit from maximum comfort. What to provide lighting and why not a guinguette atmosphere with colored lights, a fridge, a kettle, sound with a connected speaker… and what to recharge the battery of your electric bike to pick up croissants in the most close located 10 kilometers away! Imagine that this reserve of energy is available without the need for a polluting and noisy generator.

This is exactly what Jackery offers with its Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus. Futura was able to test it for several weeks in different ways, whether on a road trip, camping, or at home in the depths of the garden. We can even say that we enjoyed torturing this electric generator to push it to its limits and to find out what it had in its big belly. “Big”, because the device remains indeed bulky and weighs 27 kilos. Hard to do less with a battery of more than 2000 Wh. To move it fortunately Jackery has provided wheels and an extractable handle to roll it like a suitcase. We cannot say that it is all-terrain, but it remains transportable with its handles on the sides.

Very fast charging!

But before using it at the campsite, we charged the battery to 100% from the mains. The charging speed is mind-boggling. It took around two hours to run the 2042.8 Wh LiFePO4 battery from less than 3 to 100% on mains. What is practical is that the display of the device precisely indicates the input power. In our case, it was close to 2,000 W. To ensure proper cooling of the battery, the generator ventilation is triggered and the good surprise is that it is quite quiet. We only recharged the set once on the mains. For the rest, we trusted the blazing sun in June, with the addition of a 200 W solar panel, the brand’s SolarSaga.

To go faster and continue to lead castle life in wilderness, it is possible to connect two panels to the rear of the device. If, however, the battery capacity is not enough, the other solution is to extend it with an additional module. Baptized Jackery Battery Pack 2000 Plus, it is connected using a very large cable at the back of the generator. It doubles the autonomy by adding another 2042.8 Wh to the generator battery. It is the same battery and it can also be recharged with solar panels. With this set, we were able to carry out our roadtrip serenely, without worrying about saving energy. We may even have abused it a little too much.

On mains, with solar panels, or backed up with energy from an external battery of identical capacity, the Explorer 2000 Plus can also be recharged while driving. via a cigarette lighter socket. A specific cable is even provided. Charging is very slow, it would take 25 hours in theory. What we could not verify. On the front, a socket of this type is also available. Convenient for connecting a cooler, for example.

A microwave oven at the campsite

When it comes to connectors, it’s plenty. The device has three 230 V sockets which can be used simultaneously. This is what we did by plugging in a microwave oven, a jigsaw and a kettle. By making all this little world work together, the generator absolutely did not flinch. With 3,000 W of cumulative power, it feels like home. The only concern being that the connection of powerful devices will inevitably cause the battery life to decline rapidly. The generator also makes it possible to rethink the way of living the campsite. For example, the use of a microwave oven for a few minutes a day is appreciable and this limited use in time does not affect the autonomy of the device that much.

Opting for the comfort delivered by such an energy generator has a cost. THE Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus is sold for 2,299 euros. By doubling the capacity and therefore the autonomy with the Kit Explorer 4000, the bill rises to 3,799 euros. But to generate energy for free, the kit comprising the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus and a 200 W solar panel is sold for 2,899 euros. The price rises to 4,399 euros if we add the battery extension. In any case, if the basic investment is substantial, be aware that the battery will last 4,000 cycles before losing 30% of its capacity. The set can therefore accompany you on a daily basis for more than ten years without weakening.
