The win secured a series victory for the Brewers, who took two of three games in New York.
Chourio Sets the Tone Early
The tone of the contest was established immediately in the top of the first inning. Chourio singled to left field on the very first pitch thrown by Mets starter Sean Manaea. Luis Lara followed with a walk, and after a William Contreras strikeout, Andrew Vaughn brought Chourio home with a single to right. Gary Sánchez then drove in Lara with a groundout to second base, staking Milwaukee to a quick 2-0 advantage. It marked the first time the Brewers had scored a run in the opening frame on the road since June 10 against the Athletics.
Chourio returned to the batter’s box in the third inning with two outs, following a bunt single by David Hamilton off Manaea. On the first pitch, Chourio launched a home run out to right field, pushing the lead to 4-0. This multi-homer performance marked Chourio’s third of the season and the fifth of his career, adding to a postseason home run he hit against the Mets in 2024.
Misiorowski Battles Command and the Citi Field Mound
On the mound, Jacob Misiorowski navigated tricky conditions to earn his 14th win of the season against five losses, pitching six strong innings. The 6-foot-7 right-hander struck out six batters and allowed just two hits and two walks. Light rain in Queens created a slippery surface, leading both Misiorowski and Manaea to continuously adjust their footing on the mound. Grounds crew members tended to the dirt between innings, and Brewers manager Pat Murphy engaged in a discussion with crew chief Vic Carapazza during the third inning regarding the landing area.
Despite a dip in velocity—with none of his fastballs reaching 101 mph, though nine of his 95 pitches clocked at 100 mph—Misiorowski kept the Mets off the scoreboard until the fifth frame. In that inning, the Mets broke through when Jacob Young hit an RBI double and Christopher Morel laced a run-scoring single, trimming Milwaukee’s lead to 4-2. Misiorowski recovered to close out his outing with an efficient sixth frame, needing only seven pitches to navigate the inning before handing the ball over to the bullpen.
Insurance Runs Secure the Series Victory
Milwaukee added crucial insurance as the game progressed. In the fifth, Chourio initiated a manufactured run by leading off with his third hit of the game, stealing second base, advancing to third on a Lara single, and scoring on a Contreras groundout. In the sixth, Joey Ortiz tripled and scored when Cooper Pratt hit a deep fly ball to the warning track in left field.
Chourio punctuated his night in the eighth inning. After Pratt singled and stole second base, Chourio faced reliever Xzavion Curry with two outs and drove a two-run homer to right field, capping his 4-for-5 night. Relievers Anthony Senzatela, DL Hall, and Chad Patrick each pitched an inning in relief to seal the 8-2 final score.
With the series win, the Milwaukee Brewers improved their record to 83-51, holding a three-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in the big leagues. The team returns home to face the Texas Rangers, while the New York Mets prepare to host the Houston Astros.
