USDA responds to widespread theft of SNAP benefits
Over the last few years, thousands of SNAP beneficiaries across the country have seen their benefits stolen, with fraudsters able to hack in and steal the value of the benefits. In response, the federal government required states to implement plans to protect beneficiaries. The USDA has published a list of tips to prevent benefit theft, including the creation of a pin that is hard to guess and changing it often, and to “beware of phishing,” noting that “state agencies and EBT processors will never call or text to ask for your PIN or card number.” If you notice that your benefits have been stolen, contact your state authority.
