January 27th-Turkish CULTURAL Community (TKG): “We remember International Holocaust Remembrance Day”

2024-01-27 07:40:05

Vienna (OTS) – On January 27, 1945, the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army. “International Holocaust Remembrance Day” has been celebrated worldwide since 2006 to commemorate the millions of victims of the Holocaust.

Today, on January 27, 2024, we – the Turkish Cultural Community in Austria (TKG) – commemorate the millions of victims of National Socialism. We must prevent “old” and “new” forms of anti-Semitism and racism from becoming everyday companions.

In memory of the millions of victims of the Holocaust, “International Holocaust Remembrance Day” has been celebrated worldwide since 2006. Not only Jews were murdered by the Nazi regime, but also left-wing communists, social democrats, Christian social democrats, homosexuals, Roma Sinti, people who were not were seen as equals, and also people from different nations who did not support the Nazi regime but rather criticized it, i.e. were opponents.

We must not give room to racist and anti-Semitic agitation and exclusion. As defensive democrats, we must counter exclusion, agitation and prejudices with civil society and the rule of law education and vigilance. Religions can set special accents for peace by reflecting on the core of all religions, the protection of human dignity.

Austria must not be a self-service shop for anti-Semites

As Austrians with Turkish roots, we are against forgetting “International Holocaust Remembrance Day”! A global symbol of remembrance of the six million murdered Jews must be made and Austria must not be a self-service store for anti-Semites, under whatever pretext. We must remember, because even today anti-Semitism lives on and the propaganda of Holocaust deniers lives on. Never again! Never again.
