January challenge: a month without alcohol

2024-01-11 08:00:02

Every year, the January challenge Dry January encourages the interruption of alcohol consumption from January 1 to 31. This initiative aims to evaluate whether this break proves problematic, as well as to make people feel the effects of this abstinence, on a physical and mental level.

This year, 48 French addictologists sent a letter to the Minister of Health asking him to support (which is not the case) the January challenge and to encourage a coherent policy once morest alcoholism. According to the WHO, 3 million people die each year as a result of excessive alcohol consumption, or more than 5% of all deaths worldwide. Additionally, alcohol abuse is known to be linked to more than 200 diseases.

What are the effects of excessive alcohol consumption on the body? How to identify alcohol dependence?
