January update is available, with more than 70 security fixes

Samsung has just rolled out the first update of the year to some of its Galaxy smartphones. This is a security patch, which corrects many bugs and flaws present on the devices.

Samsung has rolled out a security update for the month of January 2024, which weighs around 400 MB, bringing a number of bug fixes and improvements to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series devices, as well as to other models.

According to Samsung’s security updates web page, the update fixes a “critical” vulnerability, named CVE-2022-40507, which could have allowed a malicious application to access the user’s personal data through the notification service. The update also fixes 67 “high” priority vulnerabilities, six “moderate” priority vulnerabilities and one vulnerability already fixed in a previous update.

What’s new in the January 2024 update at Samsung?

Among other fixes, Samsung appears to have fixed a bug that could have allowed an attacker to pair a device with a Galaxy phone over Bluetooth without the user’s consent or knowledge, as well as another bug that could have Allow Samsung DeX users to see other users’ notifications in a multi-user environment.

We can also note the correction of a bug which could have caused the phone to restart when using the camera application, or the arrival of some improvements to the performance and stability of the devices, as well as some minor UI changes.

Users can check if the update is available for their device by going to Settings > Software Update and clicking Download and Install. As the update includes fixes for Android and Samsung specific vulnerabilities, it is recommended to install it as soon as possible to maximize the security of your smartphone.
