The Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the US military conducted bilateral tactical exercises on May 25 over the Sea of Japan. They involved four F-15 fighters and four F-16 fighters.
AT press release, published on the website of the Japanese Ministry of Defense, states that the Japanese Air Force and the US military “regularly cooperate closely in peacetime and maintain a high level of operational readiness to respond to any situation.” The document also notes that Japan and the United States confirm their readiness to strengthen the military alliance.
The Kyodo agency noted that the joint exercises of Japan and the United States could become a signal to the DPRK, which on May 25 launched three ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan. South Korean agency “Yonhap” reportedthat the DPRK tested “detonation equipment” in preparation for a nuclear launch.
