Tokyo: Japan is on high alert following North Korea’s announcement that it is in the final stages of preparing to launch its first military surveillance satellite. Japan has said its military is ready to shoot down a long-range rocket used by North Korea to launch a satellite.
Defense Minister Yasukasu Hamada yesterday instructed the Japanese Self Defense Force to make preparations for this. Missile defense systems will be deployed on land and sea. The military will be careful not to let rocket debris fall within Japan’s reach. North Korea has not announced that it was a satellite launch.
