Memphis Grizzlies center Jaren Jackson Jr. has had surgery on his right foot to fix a stress fracture. Just minutes before the free agency chaos officially opened, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPNrevealed bad news for Grizzlies fans.
In Memphis they quickly confirmed the news with a medical update and listed Jackson Jr.’s recovery time at approximately 4-6 months. Worst case scenario, Jaren would miss the first month or two of the season and return around Christmas break.
It’s unfortunate news for the Grizzlies center, who played at a good level last season. After various injuries during the first 3 years of his career, Jaren Jackson Jr. made 78 appearances last season and was the anchor of the Memphis defense. Jackson ultimately finished fifth in voting for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Ja Morant was quick to try and calm Grizzlies fans shortly after the news broke, telling everyone on Twitter that Jaren Jackson Jr. is fine.
The Grizzlies showed last season that they have players who are capable of stepping up when starters are down. Everything indicates that they will have to start the 2022-2023 season with the same mentality.
