MEXICO CITY.- This Wednesday morning, the American television network CNNreleased progress of an interview he conducted Andrés Oppenheimer al president of Argentina, Javier Mileyand which will be broadcast next Sunday.
In one of the fragments of the interview, which lasted just 20 seconds, Oppenheimer alluded to the criticism that the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador has made Milei.
Oppenheimer pointed out to Milei: “Mexico is going to have elections on June 2, both President López Obrador and his candidate Claudia Sheinbaum have had very harsh words with you.”
Milei interrupts saying: “It’s a compliment. I say that it is a compliment that an ignorant person like López Obrador speaks badly of me, he exalts me.”
“21st century socialism” and the Argentine economy
In another preview of the interview, the owner of Oppenheimer Presenta questioned, “And that the official candidate, supported by President López Obrador, says that you represent a setback in Argentina?”
To which the Argentine president responded, “Well, let’s say, we have to see. Because if Kirchnerism was good, I tell you that in the 90s Argentina had an average salary of 1,800 dollars, which, put in today’s currency, would be 3,000 dollars; and today the average salary in Argentina is 600 dollars. I’m exaggerating, it’s even less.
It means that the populism that they praise so much is the socialism of the 21st century, it cost Argentines 80% of their income and has brought the number of poor to more than 50%. “There are 5 million Argentines who cannot afford to eat.”
Javier Milei was interviewed by Andrés Oppenheimer for his program Oppenheimer presents. The interview will be broadcast on Sunday. However, the preview shows the poor relationship between the governments of both countries.
Milei also said, “If the good thing is to go to that model and the setback is to go to the country that I thought [Juan Bautista] Alberdi [autor intelectual de la Constitución argentina de 1953] and that with the Constitution of ’53, modified in ’60 when Buenos Aires was incorporated, which made us become the first world power in 35 years…Well, it has a problem with numbers. “I don’t know if socialists hate empirical evidence or water more.”
In December, López Obrador criticized the privatization policy of the newly elected President Milei; Last January, when questioned regarding the Argentinean’s policies, the Mexican said that “the neoliberal model is a failure, which only causes harm to the majority of people, and benefits a minority who are the ones who promote this model in the world, It is a failed model.”
However, he avoided speaking specifically regarding Milei, pointing out that “the Argentines elected him.”
In February, López Obrador said, “I am very sorry for what is happening in Argentina. The State in Argentina assumes the debts of an elite of potentates. “It is the most inhuman and cruel thing there can be, taking from those below to give to those above.”
In the preview of the interview with Oppenheimer, Milei also had harsh words for the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, with whom he has also had various disagreements and has even called him a “murderous communist.”
“You can’t expect much from someone who was a terrorist murderer,” he said in the interview with CNN, alluding to the president’s guerrilla past.
