Another who joins the list of players is the Gardener JD Martínez who was moved by the achievement obtained by the Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera, when he reached 3000 hits, last Saturday against his compatriot Antonio Senzatela.

“Honestly, it’s amazing. There are 200 hits for 15 years. Crazy,” Martinez said.

Martínez was released in 2014 by the Houston Astros, and the Detroit team decided to acquire his services for four years.

“I made a change in my swing, and all of a sudden I signed with a team where the guy I studied the most was on, thinking about that adjustment,” Martinez said. “It was a blessing from God. Just being there on a daily basis, saying ‘Look how he’s doing [swing]’ or whatever”.

Martínez was born in 1987, making him four years younger than Cabrera the tiger. He has not even reached half of the 3,000 hits, despite having been called four times to the All-Star Game, being one of the most feared sluggers on the field of play.

“Honestly, we were talking the other day about my at-bats and stuff. He had 300 doubles and he had 599,” Martinez said. “I was saying that he was about to double my doubles. You look at his turns and he literally has twice as many as me. How is it possible?”.

Martínez this season hits for a .278 batting average with just one fly fence and accumulates eight RBIs so far this season.
