“This (Wednesday) morning, I learn that Michelle Martin will have served her sentence and will enjoy total freedom after having left my daughter Julie and her friend Mélissa to die of hunger and thirst”, writes Jean-Denis Lejeune. “Above all, don’t be shocked. It’s completely normal, it’s our legal system that allows it. On the other hand, the words of former judge Suzanne Boonen (Editor’s note: in the columns of Sudinfo) call out: her reintegration in society is a failure. It’s the fault of the haters, the vigilantes, the ignorant, the wicked and the media, she explains. We must not forget that it is her (Editor’s note: Michelle Martin) who was an accomplice of Dutroux and who left my daughter to die of hunger and thirst in a cache… Look for the error. But hey, a lot of people like to rewrite history.”

Released in 2012, Michelle Martin, ex-wife and accomplice of Marc Dutroux, had earned a law degree in Namur, but was never able to practice in that branch. Already at the time, Jean-Denis Lejeune, Julie’s father, believed that “Michelle Martin has no right to reintegrate into society”.

Eight years earlier, in 2004, Michelle Martin was sentenced by the Assize Court of Arlon to 30 years in prison for kidnapping Julie, Mélissa, An, Eefje, Sabine and Laetitia and also for the death of Julie and Mélissa, died of starvation at the Dutroux’s. His parole had already caused much ink to flow.
