Jeff Mills revisits Fritz Lang’s Metropolis soundtrack again

The first two versions date from 1999 and 2010, I thought it was time to revisit the film because the world and people (in general) have changed enormously. This new soundtrack is more sentimental and deep“, writes Jeff Mills in the press release accompanying the release of the disc. Where the version created at the turn of the century offered the perspective of the spectator looking at the screen and that of 2010 the point of view of the characters of the film looking at the spectators, this new interpretation sees itself exploring the angle of the machines of Metropolis, composed as a symphonic electronic soundtrack, so it is essentially inspired by the environment of the scenes of the film, immersing us in a disturbing, sinister and sometimes disturbing atmosphere, dotted with small brighter flashes. For this reinterpretation, he chose sound elements bringing together classical and electronic, like a connection between man and machine.
