The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without the services of former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry indefinitely, his name being placed on the long-term injured list on Tuesday.
The Director General made the announcement in the evening.
The veteran suffered an upper body injury against the Buffalo Sabers last Saturday. His left arm took the brunt of a hit from forward Alex Tuch along the boards.
Petry is not eligible to return to play until the Jan. 8 game against the Arizona Coyotes.
In his first season with the Penguins, the 35-year-old defenseman has so far registered three goals and 12 points in 28 games. It was used for an average of 22 min 20 s. per game by his head coach, Mike Sullivan, making him the second most sought-after player on the roster behind Kristopher Letang.
To make up for the loss of the man who also played for the Edmonton Oilers, the Pennsylvania team announced the recall of defender Mark Friedman from his school club of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Forward Drew O’Connor also got the call from the Pens.
