Jessy and Wibe, two Belgians, mowed down by a driver in Italy: they were helping an accident victim

Last weekend, in Rome, two Belgian tourists were killed by a driver. Two young friends aged 24 and 25, broke while helping the victims of a road accident. We learn today that the suspect, who had fled, did not have a license and was driving under the influence.

Jessy Dewildeman’s mother and little brother are devastated.

The 24-year-old was on a trip to Rome with her friend Wibe. They even posted videos on social networks in their rental car. It is at this level of the A24 that the two young Belgians come across the scene of another accident. It’s 10:10 p.m. The two girls want to help the injured, but another car hits them as they get out of the vehicle. Eveline Derumeaux, Jessy’s mother, says: “It was Jessy. Jessy was there to help people. She was ready to help everyone.” Jason Dewileman, Jessy’s brother, adds: “She died doing what she was best at, which is helping people.”

“It’s a shame”

The driver commits a hit and run, but is arrested a few kilometers away. The 53-year-old man was driving without a license, under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Evelyne, the mother: “It is not possible, it is not acceptable. I can’t conceive it, I can’t understand it.” Jason, Jessy’s brother, continues: “It’s a shame. The result would have been the same if he had stopped. But if we run away, it’s a total disrespect.”

Today the two families went to Rome to identify the bodies. Jessy’s mum took the time to visit the Vatican, one of the last places her daughter visited.

The driver risks him up to 12 years in prison.
