Jil Teichmann’s Tough Loss to Alizé Cornet at Ladies Open: Analysis and Highlights

2023-07-27 18:42:01

Jil Teichmann (WTA 124) failed to chain a second success in the Ladies Open. The left-handed Zealander lost 6-1 1-6 6-4 in the round of 16 to French Alizé Cornet (WTA 70), who had already defeated Zurich’s Viktorija Golubic the day before.

This defeat is frustrating for Jil Teichmann, who has only won 2 consecutive matches on the WTA Tour once in 2023 (in March in Indian Wells). However, she was able to raise her head after a nightmarish 1st set, and led 4-3 service to follow in the decisive set.

But the native of Barcelona cracked at the worst time, when she had just won 3 consecutive games. She thus lost the last 3 games of the match – 2 of which were disputed on her service – by scoring only 3 points in the process. Finalist in 2019 in Lausanne, Alizé Cornet did not ask for so much.

The descent into hell therefore continues for Jil Teichmann, who has not reached the quarter-finals on the main circuit since May 2022. She left the top 100 on June 12, when she had climbed to 21st place just a year ago. His lack of confidence is more and more prohibitive.
