Jim Carrey: Open to “The Mask” Sequel, grinch Return
Jim Carrey has hinted at a potential return to two of his most iconic roles: The grinch and Stanley Ipkiss, the mischievous protagonist of ”The Mask.”
While promoting his latest project, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” carrey expressed interest in reprising his role as the green-faced trickster from the 1994 hit “The Mask.” Tho,he emphasized that any sequel would only happen if the right idea came along.
“Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea. If somebody had the right idea, I guess,” Carrey said.
Carrey also addressed his previous statements about retiring from acting.In 2022, he suggested he was “fairly serious” about stepping back from the industry. however, his involvement in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and his willingness to consider a “The Mask” sequel indicate a change of heart.
“I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting,” Carrey clarified. “because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, things tend to change.”
As for the Grinch, carrey expressed a willingness to revisit the role, but only if a less physically demanding approach was possible. “The Mask,” the 2000 movie adaptation brought in $351 million worldwide.
“The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe,” Carrey said.“It was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”
