Jimmy Kimmel Set to Host Oscars for the Fourth Time: A Perfect Blend of Humanity and Humor

“Jimmy has established himself as one of the greatest Oscar hosts of all time thanks to his perfect blend of humanity and humor,” praised the ceremony’s executive producers, Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will present the Oscars ceremony for the fourth time, the organizers of Hollywood’s most prestigious ceremonies announced on Wednesday.

“I always dreamed of presenting the Oscars exactly four times,” joked the 56-year-old presenter, who hosts the American talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, in a statement.

Safe value

The comedian is seen by the industry as a sure bet to present the 96th Academy Awards, which will take place on March 10. It was already on him that the organization had bet last March to ensure a consensual ceremony, a year after Will Smith’s slap on Chris Rock which hit the headlines.

The audience then increased by 12%, an encouraging result for a television event which is trying to win back the public after hitting rock bottom during the pandemic.

Jimmy Kimmel also took on this role in 2018 and 2017. That year, a blunder was made when La La Land was accidentally announced as the winner of the Best Picture award, in fact awarded to Moonlight.

This time the comedian will have to deal with a Hollywood in full recovery, which has just been paralyzed for six months by a strike of screenwriters and actors.

This double social movement, never seen since 1960, exposed the many tensions between the studios and the small hands of an industry disrupted by the advent of streaming and artificial intelligence.
