Johan Deblieck, organ builder from Lennik, in the province of Flemish Brabant, was tasked with manufacturing a positive, a small organ, for the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris scheduled for the end of 2024.

On April 15, 2019, a spectacular fire ravaged the cathedral, sparking global emotion. The two main organs had been relatively unscathed, although one of them had suffered damage caused by the water used by the firefighters.

The positive that Johan Deblieck created for Notre-Dame includes a little more than two hundred pipes, measures 1.25 meters wide, 1.15 meters high and 75 centimeters deep. This type of instrument is often chosen for the performance of Bach’s “St Matthew Passion”.

Johan Deblieck opened his workshop in 1993 and over the years has become a world reference for positives. In 2001, he was commissioned to build an organ for the Bach-Archiv, a cultural institution dedicated to the composer located in Leipzig
