2023-11-07 14:07:09

Johnson & Johnson’s MedTech unit said Tuesday it will submit an application to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in the second half of 2024 to begin clinical trials of its robotic surgical system.

The surgical robot, Ottava, incorporates four robotic arms into a standard-sized surgical table and has the ability to reposition a patient without interrupting the surgical procedure, the company said.

Intuitive Surgical, with its da Vinci surgical robot, is leading the robotic surgery market, while Medtronic Plc is also trying to enter the market with the Hugo robotic surgical system. (Reporting by Sriparna Roy in Bengaluru; Writing by Anil D’Silva and Shinjini Ganguli)
