Jonas Vingegaard’s Impressive Win on the Tourmalet – Tour of Spain 2023

2023-09-08 16:14:44

Jonas Vingegaard won the 13th stage of the Tour of Spain at the top of the legendary Tourmalet. He was ahead of his teammates Sepp Kuss, who retained his leader’s red jersey, and Primoz Roglic. On the other hand, last year’s winner Remco Evenepoel completely collapsed.

The Dane, double winner of the Tour de France, flew eight kilometers from the summit to win during this 13th stage contested in the French Pyrenees. This hat-trick confirms the omnipotence of the Jumbo-Visma team, well on its way to winning the three Grand Tours this year.

The order remains to be determined but Sepp Kuss, usual lieutenant in the service of his leaders, has more than limited the damage. In the general classification, the American is 1’37 ahead of Roglic and 1’44 over Vingegaard.

Evenepoel craque completement

The day, on the other hand, was fatal for Remco Evenepoel, who was already more than seven minutes behind at the foot of the Tourmalet. The Belgian was left behind from the first of the three major passes of the day.

Pale-faced and bent over his machine, the Flemish prodigy, surrounded by his Soudal Quick-Step teammates, experienced a new disillusionment on a Grand Tour this year.
