Jonatan Christie’s men’s SINGLES gave Indonesia a 3-0 lead over England in the 2024 Thomas Cup group phase which was held at the Chengdu Hi Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China, Saturday, April 27 2024. Jonatan beat young British badminton player Nadeem Dalvi with 21-16 , 21-12 in 37 minutes.
“Today, in the first match, it definitely won’t be easy, adjustments are needed, such as the shuttlecock which is quite fast and today there was a sideways wind. We don’t get that in training. “So I got enough adjustments today,” said Jonathan to reporters after the match.
The 2024 All England Open champion did not deny that Dalvi could match him today. According to him, the right strategy regarding the speed and direction of the ball is the main key in this match.
“Each shuttlecock is fast or slow, the game and strategy must be different, then the way of thinking must also be different,” said Jonathan.
“First I tried to play the way I used to play, but it didn’t seem right. But finally I tried to change in the second game and it worked,” he continued.
Previously, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won 21-8, 21-15 over Harry Huang in the opening match.
Men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto then doubled it after beating Ben Lane/Sean Vendy 21-18, 21-12.
After this, the men’s doubles match was immediately held by Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri against Callum Hemming/Ethan van Leeuwen, and debutant Alwi Farhan faced young British men’s singles Cholan Kayan.
