Indonesian men’s badminton player Jonatan Christie admitted that he did not expect that he would win his first Super 1000 title at the All England Open 2024. Jonatan, as is known, won the All England men’s singles after beating Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the final which took place on Sunday (17/3) with a score of 21 -15 and 21-14.
“Praise God, I am very grateful for what God has given me, especially this week. I never thought I would be champion at All England. This is also my first Super 1000 title. It is definitely very, very valuable,” said Jonathan as quoted by Between.
The fight between Jonathan and Anthony was the first All Indonesian Finals match since 30 years ago, where Hariyanto Arbi won the final match over his compatriot, Ardy Bernardus Wiranata, in 1994.
For Jonathan, his achievements with Anthony are something that must be celebrated together because they both made history for Indonesian badminton.
“And what’s even more valuable is that Anthony (Ginting) and I, the men’s singles team, can finally repeat the history of 30 years ago,”
Jonathan said.
“It’s not easy to achieve, years of hard training, every tournament we fail, we go home and practice again, fail again and then practice even harder. It’s always been like that until finally God gave us the fruit today,” he said.

Jonathan, who appeared as the underdog in England, admitted that he enjoyed the final match with Anthony.
“After confirming the All Indonesian Finals yesterday, I am enjoying it even more because whoever wins, the important thing is Indonesia. Just from making history, I am very happy,” said Jonatan.
“After this, many people will definitely have higher expectations, but I can only do the best I can do,” he said. (Z-6)
